What the site does

You pick the appliances you need to power and how long they have to run without a recharge. The calculator adds up their watts and watt hours and checks each power station against three limits: continuous output, starting surge and usable battery capacity. Every result shows the numbers behind it.

It is built for planning power outages, camping trips, van and RV life, CPAP nights and work away from an outlet.

Where the numbers come from

  • Power station figures come from each maker's product pages, manuals and specification sheets.
  • Appliance watts are typical values from appliance makers, government lists of certified models and generator makers' wattage charts. The watts on your own appliance label beat any typical value, and the calculator takes them.
  • Each record lists its sources and the date we checked them.
  • A figure the maker does not publish shows as not published. We never fill a gap with a guess.

What we do not do

We do not test power stations or measure appliances. We read published specifications and do the arithmetic, and the methodology page states every formula.
