What to know

A refrigerator is harder on a power station than its 275 W running figure suggests. Its compressor needs about 1,000 W for a moment each time it starts, so the surge rating rules out more stations than the output does.

It also never stops for long. The compressor cycles on and off around the clock, so the energy comes from a daily figure instead: 1.3 kWh a day for a typical modern full size model, spread evenly over the day. Eight hours count a third of it, 433 Wh.

Overnight is taken as 8 hours, the calculator goal closest to a night. A station that only just reaches 8 hours leaves nothing for the morning; the runtime on each card shows how far past the goal it goes, and anything above 24 hours covers a full day.

Your own fridge may use more or less. If its label gives a yearly kWh figure, divide it by 365 for the daily energy, then by 24 and times 1,000 for the average watts, and enter that in the calculator. The question below shows how many stations last a full day, and the refrigerator guide explains the start surge.

Questions

What size power station do you need for a refrigerator overnight?
This setup uses 1,300 Wh a day. Lasting 8 hours takes 433 Wh usable, about 510 Wh of rated capacity at 85% efficiency. It also needs 275 W of continuous output and a surge rating of 1,000 W for the start.
Which is the smallest power station that is enough?
The DJI Power 500, at 512 Wh: 435 Wh usable gives 8.0 h of this routine. The ranking puts the smallest capacity first, then the lower price, then the lighter unit.
Which power stations keep a refrigerator going for a full day?
30 of the 54 stations last 24 hours or more at 85% efficiency. The smallest is the Jackery Explorer 1500 v2 (1,536 Wh), with about 24.1 h. It needs 1,300 Wh usable for the day, about 1,529 Wh of rated capacity.
